CO2 and the effects on the world Empty CO2 and the effects on the world

Post  vampy Fri Jan 30, 2009 4:56 pm

So i was watching The Eden channel, which is an english Natural information channel, And it was talking about the world.

Now in the ocean there is a organism called a fighter plankton, this plankton is found all over the world, and synthesizes, meaning that it creates oxygen from CO2 in the air,

The earth evolves around our oceans, which is connected by ocean currents, which create the great ocean conveyer, this conveyer is what moves all our nutrients, oxygen and supplies around the entire ocean, through a process of cold Arctic water meeting with deep sea water.

When the earth temperature rises, the Arctic becomes hotter, therefore the water doesnt sink because of the capacity, meaning the conveyer stops.

The earth temperature can rise naturally, because the sun has hot spots, which occur every 1 million years or so, or it can be because of rising CO2 emissions into the greenhouse effect.

If the conveyer stops, so does the rotation of the oceans currents, This causes serious effects into an acidic ocean, if the ocean is acidic then coral reefs will be posioned and so will the fighter plankton, meaning 50% of the worlds oxygen releasers will die out.

CO2 and the effects on the world Empty In Response to Vampy

Post  Torina Fri Jan 30, 2009 6:16 pm

To add to Vampy's lil speil, the heating of the earth is melting the polar ice caps. As seen in the movie "The Day After Tomorrow" this affects the North Atlantic Current. This has been proven by scientists the world over, inculding some research done by my cousin in his graduate research.

As the ice caps melt, it alters the halocline balance, a.k.a. the balance of salt and fresh water in the world's salt-water bodies. This has drastic effects such as severe climate change, altering the "conveyor" etc...

We all know that the "greenhouse effect" and "global warming" are happening, but no one knows what to do about it. People in the city are beginning to try more and more to walk and bike, but in municipal areas, such as where i live, this is not possible. Public transit doesn't even come to my area.

And how many people here have a furnace? An Air conditioner? More than likely all of us. Much of my house is run on a fireplace during the winter, but unless they run on wood the old-fashioned way like mine, they dont count. The gas they burn at some point or another is adding to this effect and this is only going to get worse.

Now, on a slightly creepish topic, the Mayan, Chinese and some of the other calendars that were envented long before ours, the calendars end in the year 2012. ALL OF THEM PEOPLE!!! But for what it's worth, this could be taken many ways. The earth could cease to exist, which is doubtful. We could pull another Ice Age, we could adapt to a radically different climate hot or cold, its what humans and animals do.

There are two other ways to think of this, both falling under the same category. The world will cease to exist as WE know it. Technology could become truly all-powerful and run our lives, or we could lose it all together. Think about it. Being like the people who settled the lands worldwide in times we can only guess about unless we have taken some SERIOUSLY complex history classes.

So here's the deal people. Plant a tree. Plant a freaking garden. Plant TWO!!! It all helps, in case you didnt know. Based on the process of photosynthesis, plants take in sunlight, CO2 and water and produce OXYGEN!!!! The substance we need to survive, and takes the gasses that harm the cycle of life out of our air. The CO2 specifically. So plant a TREE!!

That is all.

oh and Torii, that movie was awesome (The Day after Tomorrow)

Hmm is there something youre keeping from us kankan?

But yeah my earth teacher likes to talk about global warming, how this could happen within 100-400 years, we could (possibly) still be alive to die from it.
